Plan flexible city time as an accompanying visitor

Start with the confirmed hospital address and keep independent sightseeing flexible around your companion's actual schedule.

Plan from the confirmed campus and the hospital's actual visiting arrangements. The ideas here are for accompanying visitors making their own city plans. They do not establish whether a patient can travel, walk or leave the hospital.

Keep the first day practical

Save the Chinese campus address, hospital contact and accommodation details. Check the arrival airport and onward route. Shanghai has Pudong and Hongqiao airports; Beijing has Capital and Daxing. A city name alone is not enough to arrange the final journey.

Choose one activity at a time

In Shanghai, the Bund provides a waterfront area to explore, while the Shanghai Museum venue on People's Square is a separate indoor destination. Check the museum's current exhibition and admission notice rather than assuming an older reservation notice still applies.

In Beijing, the Palace Museum and Temple of Heaven are distinct large historic sites. The city ticket guide directs Palace Museum visitors to official advance-ticket channels and distinguishes Temple of Heaven park admission from access to its principal monuments. Confirm the current requirements and entry gate before setting out.

Use food and souvenirs as optional stops

Shanghai's xiaolongbao and shengjianbao and Beijing's Huguosi-style sweets can be explored as food categories. Ask sellers about the actual ingredients. For souvenirs, check packaging and the exact product label; a local shopping suggestion does not decide what can be carried across a border.

Leave room for changes

  • Check the cancellation terms of tickets and accommodation before paying.
  • Allow flexibility for an appointment, delayed visit or a request from the hospital.
  • Confirm the journey back and keep a working contact method.
  • Ask the hospital directly about accompanying-person and visitor arrangements.
