What it measures
Sector=healthcare; subject=health sciences; geographic source table=global. Positions are ordered by Share, a fractional contribution measure for research publications in the Nature Index dataset; Count is a separate article measure. The 2026 release expanded the tracked publication set and uses article-level subject classification. Institutional units may combine a school and hospital or cover a health system.
Publisher’s methodologyWhat it cannot tell you
A ranking is not evidence of international-patient access, an English-speaking clinical team, appointment availability, treatment suitability or clinical outcomes. Check the exact hospital, department, campus and access route separately. These are global positions in the healthcare/health-sciences table, not China-only positions, all-subject healthcare ranks or rankings of all Chinese hospitals. Nature Index advises against using its metrics alone to assess institutions. Annual tables may be revised.
Clinical suitability, international access, language arrangements and appointment availability require separate checks with the institution.
This page selects the first ten China-labelled institutions appearing in Nature Index's 2026 Research Leaders table for the healthcare sector and the health sciences subject, retaining their original global positions. The annual edition uses research published during the full 2025 calendar year and orders institutions by fractional publication contribution, so its results differ from both the rolling Current Index and the healthcare table covering all subjects. The selection is useful for understanding research output within this specific dataset, but it cannot establish clinical outcomes, the quality of a particular doctor's care, international-patient services or appointment availability.
